My review of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind: http://bandofothersgaming.com/pc-gaming/tes-morrowind-review/2015/12

Wanted to do a review of a favorite game of mine. One of my all-time favorites for many reasons. I wanted to see how it would stack up against my current reviews. Not to mention it would be a lot of fun writing about a game that I played for so long.

Anyone have a great experience playing this game or remember it well? Was there another game that you feel like has aspects to it that you love and know you won't see again in modern games?

Morrowind is easily my favorite Bethesda game ever... as long as it is completely unpatched.

The reason is the game played completely standard is amazing. So much to do without touching a quest.

The reason I say unpatched is because there were a number of things that was not necessarily bugs but ways you could find or make OP items that would let you do things that were absolutely silly and abused game mechanics. Pretty sure by the time I finished that game I had suits of armor that effectively let me fly, made me completely invisible and weapons I could one shot near anything with.

Agreed. Something I mentioned a bit in the write up. The fact that unlike in skyrim and such, if you know where things are, you can run and grab them as soon as you start the game. So if you got lucky or you searched hard enough, you could find a ridiculously OP weapon. I remember the daedric crescent... :icon_cheesygrin:

^ that was available at the starting area if you knew where to look for it. If I remember correctly there is an asshole of a mob guarding it and a moderately difficult lock to pick but once you have that you can prettymuch beat the game with it I think. They eventually patched it out so it was a casted effect with cooldown instead of perma regen.

And then there are the boots of blinding speed you find on a dead guy. They make you 3x faster but make you blind so paired with the Cuirass of the Savior's Hide you are only slightly blind. The only problem with this combo though is in some areas you can fall through floors by running to fast.

I do recall, very well, the boots of blinding speed being found on a dead argonian's (or dunmer?) body in the middle of the road. But you needed that cuirass to couteract it. Remember it extremely well.

One thing that I touched upon that has certainly gotten sad / annoying is the item (And NPC) leveling that occurs in these newer games. FO4 was designed so that the further South you went, the more difficult enemies you'd stumble across, and the more dangerous it was. No idea how that is explained in a real life context... just a terrible gameplay mechanic.

Really disappointing to see this sort of thing scrapped and I don't understand why aside from a really easy, stupid workaround to make everything linear and balanced throughout the game. Being a low level (sub-10) character there are enemies that I should NOT be able to defeat no matter what... don't you agree?
