For those of you that haven't seen, the new season schedule is out (has been for a couple weeks now) on the iRacing forums.
There isn't much that has changed (obviously Dirt hasn't been officially announced yet). Of course, it is mostly just a tool to plan for the new season starting in just over a week, but one thing that did jump out at me that IS pertinent to, at least a small part of, this community;
GLOBAL CHALLENGE IS BACK!!!
That's right! Racing the Cadillac and Kia in the same series will be a thing again!!
For those of you that didn't know, the iRacing Kia Optima and Cadillac CTS were originally in a series together called Global Challenge. This series mimicked the real life series "Pirelli World Challenge" which utilized these cars, among others, in a multi-class format. However, the PWC grid grew so large that they had to separate the 'GT' class (represented in iRacing with the Cadillac) from the 'GTS' class (represented in iRacing by the Kia) into two separate races. iRacing carried that change into its own schedule, splitting the multi-car/class Global Challenge into the single car/class "Cadillac Cup" and "Kia Cup". The Cadillac series has trudged on, with a few people keeping almost every race official, barely. However, Kia Cup has been a complete flop, with only the die-hard Kia drivers keeping a race going official ~3 times a week with a field size of 8-16 cars maximum.
It might be kind of cheap, but giving noobs a fast car to beat up on a slow car seems to be a good way to cheat numbers into a series, and Global Challenge was always a fun and well attended series, with 15+ Cadillac's and 3-5 Kia's in your average grid, and sometimes even a split or two! Hopefully the return of the Global Challenge will also mean the return of these numbers, and I will definitely be looking forward to contributing to these numbers!
