Super Mod
Well, as this is a game that falls under nearly every category we have for pc gaming, I thought I'd post it here to see who else is participating in the Beta or hoping to pick this up on release.

I've been playing the Beta for nearly a week and so far I'm absolutely loving it.
It really has the same feel as Elite II: Frontier; the game I played most as a kid on my trusty Commodore Amiga 500+
Anyway, if you haven't seen what it's about here's a couple of trailers;

Even in it's Beta stage it is absolutely beautiful and the features they have planned for this title are very ambitious. Following David Braben as I have over the years, you better believe he will deliver on his promises; from seamless planetary landings from space (as you could in Frontier) to fps combat on space stations/planet surfaces(!)...
Some of my screenshots can be found here; http://s1026.photobucket.com/user/littleP/library/?sort=3&page=1
It is so well made that even at this stage of development I can run everything on max settings. But what's interesting is David and co. have built this from the ground up so it can be updated to take advantage of ever more powerful machines to keep getting better and better looking. Although quite how much better looking can it get?
Here's some screenshots from my photobucket, they don't really do it justice but I can't upload them all here.
A couple of my favourites;
As I was idling chatting to Quick and Shilka on Twitch, this star started giving an incredible display of solar activity. The flares were amazing to witness.
Still images really don't do the scale or level of detail justice. As the space station rotates the day/night cycle is complete and every little building is modelled with lighting that comes on individually etc. Eventually we will be able to explore down there, can't wait.
Not many games make you just stop and take in the view... I'm going to be getting an Oculus Rift just for this game. That's how much of an experience it is already. From what owners say with DK2 version of the Rift the feeling of immersion in Elite is 100%
I cannot wait for the consumer release...
Anyway, hopefully see some of you out there in the vast unknown
