Yes but from what I recall, they'd put out major releases in the future and charge for those, too. Really makes me wonder how that would even work. Am I going to be able to play online / with friends if I choose not to pay for the latest release or they don't have the same versions as I do?
I see 2 ways that they can do that,
Either like I belive World of warcraft does with expansions where you can only go if you bought it. So take planetary landings ..you still play in the same universe compeat but people with update get an option to buy atmos shielding or something so they can land on the planets for other bonuses other ways to mine etc ability to get stuff that those without update cant get (say ability to hunt animals etc)
Now I dont know how it Works in WOW with levels and equipment etc but I would guess that people in that game with update is a lot more powerful then the ones without.
The second way I can see they could do it is make it into a new game for each update ...like those EA sport games ..one game a year. That would of course shatter the community into different Groups..those with the new game and those with the old game. And the galaxy would indeed be very empty.
I personally hope they got he WOW way with Places non upgraders just cant go.
