2025 iRacing Bathurst 12hr

I tried the McLaren at Bathurst using the low down force endurance setup and I was rather surprised how understeery it is. But worse than that is it is difficult to recover if you make a mistake and upset the car and it seems to have some sort of odd sway that makes it difficult to recover. Ah, so you say, don't make a mistake. . . well, driving in traffic at bathurst, seems mistakes are inevitable. Has any one else tried it? Maybe some of this could be fixed in the setup. I think I'm going to try the Acura and see how it is.

Ahh, interesting. I thought the sway was just something in my wheel. I never considered it might be the car. I'll be curious your opinion of the Acura. I think it's underwhelming to drive, very similar to the Audi, Ferrari, Lambo, etc. Not very quick in a straight-line, unlike the McLaren, but it appears to have an edge in cornering.

I don't own the McLaren, though if it's what we decided on, I'd buy it. I'd prefer the Acura or Ferrari. I don't mind a bit underwhelming at Bathurst :D.

Obviously in for Bathurst.

I tested the Acura, I put three more degrees of wing in the low downforce endurance setting to get around. It is rather underwhelming. It seems like it doesn't have as much torque as other GT3s in the low range of a gear so I was having to use first gear a lot to get out of the corners with decent acceleration. It also wasn't as stable thru skyline as I expected, which likely could be corrected with the setup. All in all though, I would def prefer the Ferrari over the Acura.

I went back to the McLaren and put in three more degrees of wing in setup. So much better!!! That sway was gone and really seemed quite stable. It sounds great too, so I think this car could work with the right setup. I am always happy to drive the Ferrari since its just a great all around car, but I think the McLaren could do well.

@Deb I have dragged a new member along for Bathurst and we will be driving the Porsche, we also have Hans (health allowing) for a couple of stints if he is able, if you only want 3 ish stints and find the Porsche is to your liking then maybe that could be an option for you?

*Update* Hospital called today and I have surgery on the 20th Feb which is two days before the race and not enough time to recover. I will yet again have to sit this one out but it at least frees me up for sure for Sebring, Hopefully there are plenty of people to be able to make up the teams without me.
Sorry :(

I have tried the McLaren a couple of weeks ago and I didn't notice the swaying if I remember correctly. I did find that it tends to get out of shape when getting on the throttle early. It slides a bit, the TC activates and all the exit speed is gone. Doesn't feel dangerous, just weird.

I was suprised how behaved it was on low downforce endurance. I even tried to decrease the wing to the minimum (-2 clicks), but let's just say that was too much...

Sorry to hear about that Nejt.

Does this mean I still need to paint the Porky because I could certainly use that time to do other things if possible?

Please spend the time on your other things Ken, the next outing for that will be Sebring at the earliest. Glad you saw the post, sorry my mind was elsewhere for a bit!

@Nejtun, that's too bad, I did try the Porsche this afternoon with the low endurance setting and adding 2 clicks more of wing and could get around. About 1/2 a second slower than the other 2 cars, but haven't driven it in forever, so I probably could make that time up with more practice. I only want around 2 stints, so that would have worked out, maybe next race :)

Well, you, of course, have more talent then me, because at default wing, I was getting some strange stuff going on if I slightly destablized the car. Adding more wing definitely helped. I like the car and I think it can be a good choice if we can stablize the setup :)

Make sure to change any gear stacks to "IMSA Short". Most setups default to "FIA", and a couple default to a "Daytona" stack. The McLaren seems **okay**, but I haven't seen "IMSA Short" tap out before the Chase, in any car, and the Acura doesn't have enough torque to pull out of the pits on the taller gears.

Please could you guys find a space for Reggie on a team as I have left him high and dry without a team to drive in. Also, when you have decided on a car (is it the Macca so far?) please let us know.
Cheers!

Hi :) As Nejt mentioned, I'm looking to drive in the upcoming Bathurst 12hr. I'm not going to be the fastest on the grid, as I'm only just starting out with iRacing, but I'd like to give it a go, even if it's only for a few stints.

I've been practicing in the Porsche, but I'm open to most of the cars. I test-drove the McLaren the other day, and I thought it was pretty good. Let me know!

Welcome @Reggie, looking forward to driving with you:) What set up did u use on the McLaren? I tried the iracing low downforce endurance setup but added 3 clicks of wing and it seemed good, but I'll probably test some other setups when I get back this weekend.
