iRacing League BOP Test Sessions.

My fellow iRacers, I need to host a number of weekend events commencing shortly to help nail down the vehicle lineup for our League.

Each weekend session will take 3 hours which I'll explain below.

We'll vote on a minimum of 4 different tracks to run that will give us the best idea of changes required to make all cars run similar pace.

In order to test the vehicles properly we'll need to vary the tracks to a large degree so we can compare how they handle:

  • quick directional changes while rolling, braking or on throttle.
  • high speed cornering while rolling, braking or on throttle.
  • straight line speed
Of the tracks we've tested previously Interlagos and Barber provided the most feedback with Watkins Glen telling us little to nothing. For this reason we'll need to revisit Watkins now that we've learned what the issues are to see if the cars are more closely balanced.

As it stands the following cars are either tentative or confirmed in our Blancpain B2O/Practice Pals League:

  • BMW Z4 GT3 (confirmed)
  • Cadillac CTS-VR (nearly confirmed)
  • Corvette C6.R (tentative, top speed and gear ratio tweaks required)
  • McLaren MP4-12C GT3 (confirmed)
  • Ruf RT 12R Track (confirmed)
Each round of testing will take 3 hours to complete and will require each driver to test a different car/session.

Each test day we'll run one track only with each driver switching to a different car between sessions.

For example, if I were to run I'd drive the Cadillac in Session 1, the Corvette in Session 2 and the Z4 in Session 3.

To get the most relevant data possible we'll take my Best and Optimum Laptimes and compare them against other drivers.

Also, since we are attempting to add custom cars to a Blancpain Style GT3 League our Season Track Schedule will differ from that of iRacings Blancpain Sprint and Endurance Series.

This will ensure that everyone has the same level of practice come race day.

This testing can be done on either Friday nights, Saturdays or Sundays mid day.

We'll also require a Staff of people to help us in a number of areas as of yet to be determined. If you are interested in helping us run and/or administer the League then please PM me directly.

Just know that League will be a weekly event so only commit if it's something you can help with regularly.

Please respond if interested.

Thanks all,

Ken

FYI Dookie I made a BOP thread a week or so ago. But you know I'm in for helping. Maybe move those posts to this thread? There was some good, helpful info.

This is actually more specific to the overall testing criteria, Session Scheduling and Staffing.

I thought I'd leave that thread for results.

But i'll help where i can.

OK guys we're going to run a test session this Friday Evening (May 15th) for approx. 3 hours.

That will be 3 1hr test sessions where we all take a crack at a different car to see how our laptimes compare car to car.

I suggest we run a track that we're all familiar with such as Watkins or possibly Summit Point.

Ideally I'd love to start testing around 8 or 9 PM EST.

I think we should throw a longer track (with long straights I mean) in like Spa. We did Watkins already. Silverstone? Summit isn't a terrible idea either.

Watkins didn't yield any results as we hadn't nerfed the Corvette at that time and we need that data.

...plus most everyone is now familiar with the track.

Interlagos and Barber were perfect after the weight addition to the Corvette and Jeff tweaks to the Caddy but we'll need to run them again in the near future as well so we can record the data.

I'd love to run Spa but the problem is it's a pretty big, fast track so if there aren't that many people committed we'll never see each other. There's also a fair amount of flat out areas so if we don't have the BOP right the Corvette will run away with it.

I agree we need Spa but I think we need more data before we get there.

For now I want to test but I want to keep it intimate as it also makes for better viewing on Twitch.

Where it stands we don't have nearly enough committed bodies for a League so we're going to need some Twitch viewers to help fill grid positions.

Summit or another small twisty track would be interesting to see how they're balanced. I was just saying I think we'd see the full results of the balance best at Spa. It will be very obvious there, of all places.

So you're probably right, we should leave that for one of the last tracks to test BoP.

Spa is very much on the ToDo List, I LOVE ME DA SPA :icon_cheesygrin:

I just think it's a bit early and I want good TV.

Any thoughts on a League Banner so I can add it to Twitch?

Would you guys like to to a BOP Test at a few tracks this Friday night with the following cars?
  • BMW Z4
  • Ruf Track
  • McLaren MP4-12C
  • Corvette
  • Aston
We'll likely run Watkins, Interlagos and Barber as before so as to give us a decent amount of track diversity.

Both GT1 cars will have maximum weight added to start and all cars are to run offset fuel, enough to run approx half the race.

Maybe so but the BMW competes in Blancpain which is the point of this entire exercise.

This will be a Blancpain Style League so we'll be doing our best to mimic it as close as possible including a 30 minute Qualifying Race rather than Session.
