Mad Max PC. Anyone else playing this?

Most surprising game of the year for me. I really wasn't expecting much and avoided reading reviews. I based my decision to purchase solely on watching twitch streams. 20 minutes later and I'd picked it up for £15 through a third party key seller.

Best £15 I've ever spent on a game (well, Rocket League not withstanding of course).

Some real depth here, choice about how YOU want to play, gorgeous visuals, great sounds, variety, runs well (60fps locked 1440p with EVERYTHING turned up to maximum on a G1 Gigabyte 970), and has a ton of game time there if you want it. What's not to like?

I enjoyed the film, Tom Hardy really did the legend of Mad Max justice, and thanks to this title, we now have the game to do the franchise justice. Long time coming, well done.

ALL HAIL THE V8!

And it has it's comedy moments too. Here we see Chumbucket (your faithful blackfinger mechanic/disciple) attempting to please his master.

He is no longer allowed to drive the Magnum Opus.

Downloading now.

Total Biscuit had nothing but positive things to say about it and called it a "superb port".

The little things he found he admitted to were nitpicking only because it's his job.

lol I saw the film twice in theaters and 3 times since. It's funny how some say there's "no story" lol. Clearly they've never seen the previous versions because it's never been the focus really.

It's all about a guy named Max and that's pretty much it.

I did think Fury Road had an excellent story and there was a fair amount of it. The focus wasn't just gasoline but water, food, the next generation, what constitutes property and freedom.

I also loved the fact they actually developed some story around war boys, excellent.

Amazing flick, I can't imagine what they'll do for the sequels, hopefully no fucking Thunderdome!

...

I do like the way he got the dog and the fact it seemed a little more true to The Road Warrior than Fury Road was.

The only thing I wish we had was more choice over vehicles. The selection is quite nice but I would have loved to build any or all of the following:

f100-cobra-tow-truck-filming.jpgmad-max-truck_1425571i.jpgmad-max-2-landau-front.jpg

...or the option to faithfully recreate "the last of the V8 Interceptors".

I would like the option to walk though and take my time moving through the environments. Very nitpicky to say the least, the game so far is pretty awesome and runs like butter.

I have noticed and issue however with running Bandicam though in that it immediately crashes the video driver for me, every single time.

Both Bandicam and NVIDIA versions/drivers have been updated so I'm not sure what the issue may be?

As always Duke, it is because you touch yourself at night.

You can't blame all the worlds problems on me touching myself. Scientists have come right out and blamed me touching myself as the basis of Global Warming.

I'll take the usual hit if it disrupts gravity or shifts the Earths angle a tidge but aside from that it should be a non issue some of the time.

Good screens Duke, brought back some memories. How far are you into it now? You will be pleasantly surprised re: the V8 Interceptor and the variety of vehicles I think. Sounds like you aren't too far in. Don't want to say too much. As for roaming the environment, that is what I'm doing now. I'm currently scavenging for project parts to upgrade the strongholds. Just doing these little side bits and bobs is so much fun. They have done a great job of making a barren wasteland feel "alive". There's always something I'm stunbling upon and quite often I get distracted from the objective I'd set myself before leaving the stronghold to investigate something I've come across (no not Chumbucket, although he is a real looker). I really like how it doesn't scale to your level. If you try and take on some things in this early part of the game you WILL get your ass kicked. I like that. It gives you something to aim for, like "ok you rinsed me this time (and many times) but I'll be back once I unlock XYZ".

The first time I took down a convoy I think I got a woody. So dynamic and cinematic. It just "feels" like Mad Max. It's hard to put your finger on it (unlike your moose peen Duke as JK points out) but it just feels right.

The further you get into it the more the game opens up. The first couple of hours are really tutorials, once you are free to go off on your own that's when things get really interesting... :icon_twisted:

And yes JK, I did really like the film. I'm a Tom Hardy fan (just finished watching Martina Cole's "The Take" again - brutal) AND a Mad Max fan so this movie was a match made in Carburettor Heaven.

WITNESS!

I'm in about an hour and a good part of that was key rebinding, graphic settings, one mission (the Magnum Opus) and some light exploration/looting.

It took me forever to figure out how to blow up that bl00dy gate too without blowing myself up in the process. :icon_redface:

I've been tempted to buy, but I'm not sure my rig can run it. Basically, I'm running on gear that was pretty solid...in 2010. So, like, a 1GB AMD Radeon 5800 card. I've been able to play games up til about Arkham Origins without worrying about dropping graphics rates, but I have to seriously handicap Watch_Dogs to get it to run. It looks fine (to me), but only runs at lower-end detail.

Check the system specs because I'm guessing you can probably run it as it seems very well optimized. I don't think I've ever seen a game run this smoothly at all forget about the fact that it's in this state at launch.

I'm almost sure you'll be able to run it Solo no problem. Watch dogs was a piece of garbage (optimization wise) so don't base your concerns on that. This game really is fantastic with how it runs. It's how games should be on release. Something tells me they were paying the coders some serious bonus pay to get this right after Batman

Take advantage of the Steam refund policy, that way there's no risk involved for you. Try it out, if you're not happy with how it runs you can refund it within two hours of gametime as you know. You can't lose. Personally I think you'll be fine at 1080p even if you have to knock a few settings down. It will still look great even without all of the 4k res and bells and whistles turned on.

We may be talking about a different gate. There are literally many gates in the desert. I do like there's usually more than one way to skin a cat with what you are trying to achieve though, feels very liberating.

Throwing that Jerry Can lit up is a lot of fun though eh, especially when thrown at a crowd of hapless War Boys :icon_twisted:

I did have a mildly amusing moment when I pressed the wrong button and accidently ignited the can instead of re-fuelling, panicked, hit the refuel button then the can exploded as I was filling the generator up :icon_eek: As it was in a cut scene I escaped unharmed but I did chuckle a bit. I don't mind little bugs like that as it was kind of funny at the time :icon_lol:

Oh and did you know there is a first person view for driving? It's pretty cool actually and although it is a little harder trying to take down a convoy in this view it is pretty immersive and very cinematic. I only found about it yesterday by accident. On the Xbox One controller it's double tap down on the d-pad.

The deeper I'm getting in to this game the better it's getting, absolutely love it :)

16 hours in so far and there's still a lot of new things happening and so much to discover. Epic game!

Two things.

1. I don't expect they were doing anything in relation to this game vs. Arkham Knight other than triple-checking QA for PCs. Even then, I wouldn't expect the two games to be related. This game probably went gold around the time that Arkham Knight was released.

2. Here are my system specs.

CPU: Intel i7-950 @3.02 GHz.
RAM: 6GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5800 with 1GB

The real weak link for this game is the video card. Minimum specs say you should have a 2GB card. I meet the minimums for everything else.

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com says I can't run the game at minimum specs. :/

You're really missing out Solo because this game is awesome!

I'm about 16 hours in now and haven't even scratched the surface. Finally completed the mission to make gun powder to unlimited (limited) ammo is finally unlocked.

...I say limited because you really can't carry all that much and the wasteland is stingy.

I've only cleared 2 areas of influence and am nowhere near Gastown. If I were to guess I'd say Gastown is another 30 hours away at the rate I'm playing.

Storms, AWESOME!!!

I was in a camp when one hit and it was blowing everything up. It actually blew up some of the oil containers for me and I was credited with them just standing there. The lightening effects and weather effects in general are great.

I finally hit real desert today too and the sand was blinding white, wow.

This game is truly terrific.

Snapped a few screens tonight after taking out a small war party:

You might be able to run it. Despite some reviews saying to the contrary, the game is really well optimised.

I've got pretty far in now and enjoying it but it does lack variety. Unlocked most of the archangel cars and variation does seem ultimately quite limited. The types of vehicles you face tend to be based on several models just with different skins and the missions you can do around the world tend to be 3-4 main types with variation in layout. The melee combat is very much like the last Batman games so is pretty solid.

It's kind of like the first Assassin's Creed. It's basic and has lots of potential but the game is good enough to compel you to keep playing. Yet it could be so much more.
